Welcome to Robert Hutson Architects
Robert Hutson Architects is an architectural partnership practicing from the village of East Hanningfield in Essex. The Practice was formed in 1982 and has grown steadily since inception.
We initially established our reputation in the design of significant houses for individual clients. The practice has expanded its operations and currently specialises in several areas:
- Education
- The Performing Arts & Leisure
- Urban design
- Housing
Our client list contains blue chip companies and significant institutions.
In the University sector, we have undertaken commissions for six Universities in London and the South East of England. In the field of Performing Arts, we have carried out projects for The Really Useful Theatre Group, who own and operate 16 London Theatres in significant listed buildings.

In the University sector, we have undertaken commissions for six Universities in London and the South East of England. In the field of Performing Arts, we have carried out projects for The Really Useful Theatre Group, who own and operate 16 London Theatres in significant listed buildings.
For Club Quarters, an American hotel chain, we have designed three hotels in London and have completed three commissions in America. We are currently working on a new hotel for this client in Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Outside of London, we have designed theatres, performance spaces, bars and restaurants numerous clients.
Within the Housing sector, our clients are the major residential development companies. For over a decade, we have designed schemes for clients such as Bellway and Barratt Homes, as well as smaller regional house builders.
Forming a successful working relationship with our many clients is central to our ethos. The stability of our client base and the continuity of our staff have enabled us to design and deliver large challenging projects for more than two decades. Whilst originally operating as a sole practitioner, Robert Hutson formed a partnership with Peter Heather in the Year 2000. This move added breadth to the management structure and enabled the Practice to

Operationally the Practice embraces both the traditional skills of presentation drawing and model making, allied to state of the art computer systems. An early reputation for fine drawings, exhibited at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, has now been augmented by stunning computer visualisations. Our ability to communicate our ideas is one of the prime strengths of the Practice and one of the key services we offer to our clients.
The Practice is a member of Acanthus, the national network of independent practices, united by a desire for excellence in design.
